Background: Anti-apartheid supporters staged a protest in London on Monday (11 January) urging that Ian David Kitson and his 25-year-old son Steven, should be released from jail and detention in South Africa. Standing beside Mr. Ian Kitson's wife at the demonstration outside South Africa House was the noted Labour politician Mr. Tony Benn. Steven Kitson, a Rolls-Royce engineer, was arrested on Thursday (7 January) in Johannesburg, allegedly having sketches and photographs of Pretoria Prison in his possession. His father, Ian is serving a 20-year jail sentence after being found guilty of sabotage. The latest protest was held on the same site where Steven Kitson, then aged 12, had taken part in a 1969 demonstrations which asked for this father to be released.
