Background: More than five-hundred Tel-Aviv schoolchildren staged a bicycle demonstration on Wednesday (December 5) to express their thanks for what they see as Holland's support of Israel.
They chanted "Hollan, Holland" as they rode through the streets to Municipality Square and some carried posters which said "We Salute You, Courageous People".
The Arab oil producing nations have imposed a total boycott of oil supplies to Holland on the grounds of the country's alleged pro-Israel stand. The oil producers have mae it clear that Holland must change its position as the price of lifting the embargo.
But the Dutch Government has denied it his favoured Israel in the conflict with the Arabs. Foreign Ministry spokesmen have been emphasising that nothing whatsoever has changed in Dutch policy towards the Middle East conflict. The Dutch Government has, however, refused to make a special pro-Arab statement to end the embargo.
At Tel Avivi's Town Hall, the children were addressed by a town council member in the presence of the Dutch Consul.
The children's two-wheeled demonstration was also an encouragement to Israelis to save scarce fuel.
