    PAKISTAN AND INDIA YESTERDAY (MONDAY) AGREED IN KARACHI THAT THE VALLEY OF KASHMIR SHOULD NOT BE PARTITIONED.BUT THEY DISAGREED ON WHICH COUNTRY SHOULD POSSESS IT.THE DISAGREEMENT IS AT THE HEART OF THE DISPUTE BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES OVER KASHMIR'S STATUS.YESTERDAY'S WAS THE FIFTH ROUND OF NEGOTIATIONS AIMED AT SETTLING THE PROBLEM.

    THE HIMALAYAN STATE IS DIVIDED BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN, WITH INDIA HOLDING THE KEY VALLEY AROUND SRINAGAR, KASHMIR'S CAPITAL.PAKISTAN CONTENDS THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE VALLEY WANT TO JOIN PAKISTAN AND SHOULD BE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO DO SO.

    LEADING THE INDIAN DELEGATION WAS MR SARDAR SWARAN SINGH, THE COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER, AND PAKISTAN WAS REPRESENTED BY HER FOREIGN MINISTER, MR ZULFIQAR ALI BHUTTO.
