Claimed by her Swedish owner Sven Nahlin to be the world's first "frog-dog" is 2-year-old fox terrier "Lovely" of Stockholm. Mr Nahlin, an instructor at the Stockholm school of frogmen, has trained the black and white dog to go diving in a transparent plastic mask connected by two tubes to an oxygen container on her back.
After her oxygen container and rubber boots have been fitted, Lovely is assisted under water where she is able to stay for minutes at a time. Mr Nahlin said: "Lovely wags her tail as soon as I bring out her diving suit. As a puppy she used to jump after me and try to follow me down when I dived."
When Lovely dived in the water after her master she got water in her lungs. Then Mr Nahlin got the idea of the "frog-dog" suit. The oxygen supply in the container lasts for 20 minutes but she is never allowed to stay under water for longer than ten.
