    Despite drizzling rain, the Japanese Emperor headed the reception committee at Tokyo Airport Dec 12 to greet President Ayub Khan of Pakistan when he arrived to begin an eight-day State visit.

    Arriving via Burma and Indonesia, the President's 'Viscount' aircraft touched down as a 21-gun salute echoed around the tarmac. The Emperor, accompanied by Prince Yoshi, Prince Takamatsu, Prince Mikasa, Prime Minister Ikeda, members of the Japanese Government and Diplomatic Corps, welcomed the distinguished guest in an airport lounge ceremony.

    After national anthems, the Emperor and President Ayub Khan drove away to the Geihin Palace (State Guest House), where the visitor will stay.

    Afterwards in a ceremony at the Pakistani Embassy, the Governor of Tokyo presented the key to the city to President Ayub Khan, and then the visitor made a speech for radio and television. Later he visited the Nihon University, where he received an honorary degree of literature from University Chairman Jujiro Yoshida.

    During his stay, President Ayub Khan will tour the Kansai district, and inspect various development schemes and factories. He will also have talks with Premier Ikeda and other political and financial leaders to discuss promotion of further economic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Japan.
