    Background: The Soviet Union and Iraq began talks, in Moscow last week, which will explore the strengthening and further development of co-operation between the two countries.

    The Iraqi delegation arrived at the Kremlin last Wednesday (5 Aug) and were greeted by Soviet officials.

    The Soviet delegation includes Mr Mazurov the First Deputy Prime Minister and a member of the Communist Party Political Bureau, Mr Ponomaryov...Central Committee Secretary, and Deputy Prime Minister Baibakov.

    Saddam Husein Tikriti, who heads the Iraqi delegation, is Vice-Chairman of the Council of the Revolutionary Command and Assistant General-Secretary of Iraq's Arab Socialist Revival Party.

    During the talks delegates have also discussed international problems of mutual concern.
