    The United States Collegiate basketball stars beat the Soviet Union by a single point to go into a 4-1 lead in their six-game series in an exciting match at Greensboro, North Carolina.

    America's David Thompson hit two free throws with 57 seconds of the game left to give the collegiate all-stars a 67-66 victory.

    The Soviet Union's Yury Pavlov missed a second free throw with 34 seconds left that would have given his team a tie.

    Thompson scored 24 points and Ron Lee 14 in the game which the Americans dominated in the first half.

    The young collegiate starts have done batter than the United States National team against the muscular Soviet team which holds the Olympic Basketball title.

    At the intermission the score was 60-53 to the students.

    The Alexander Belov scored several clutch baskets to give the Soviet team a lead of 65-63. Thompson tied the game before hitting the winners.
