    More than 150 people went to the swank Los Angeles district of Century City recently to watch some of the craziest would-be record-breakers in the world attempting to achieve fame at a variety of odd-ball events.

    The beer drinking and doughnut eating events were within reason, but face slapping and live goldfish eating?
    The gentlest event was that of a young man who was out to beat the world record for rocking in a rocking chair. He'd been at it for more than a week - without sleep...quite a feat in a rocking chair, but to win the chair of fame he had to keep moving for another 156-hours.

    The two young face-slapping contenders slapped away at each other contentedly and without malice. They'd been at it for nine hours when filmed and said, still slapping, that they were after the 30-hour record set by two slap-happy Russians back in 1931. Questioned by Television News Inc. reporter Bill Reed, who asked them how they knew the Russians hadn't slapped harder and faster, one turned the other cheek and said:
