    The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Niger, Colonel Bala Arabe Chaweye, arrived in Kaduna on Wednesday (21 February) to begin a three-day visit to military and civilian establishments in Nigeria.

    On arrival at the airport, Colonel Chaweye was met by Brigadier I.D. Bisalla and senior officers of the Nigerian armed forces.

    Among his engagements, Colonel Chaweye visited the Headquarters of the 1st Infantry Division, the Nigerian Defence Academy, and the Defence Industries Corporation.

    SYNOPSIS: At Kaduna airport on Wednesday, the Chief of General Staff of Niger's Armed Forces arrived for a Nigerian visit.

    Senior officers of Nigeria's armed services were at the airport to greet Colonel Bala Arabe Chaweye.

    Among them was Brigadier I.D. Bisalla, General Officer commanding the First Division of the Nigerian Army. The purpose of the Chief of Staff's visit was to see military and civilian establishments in the north, in particular the Military Academy at Zaria, and the camp site near Kaduna of the Nigerian Army's Engineering Construction regiment.

    After the formal exchange of greetings, Colonel Chaweye inspected a guard of honour by troops of the Eighty-First Infantry Battalion.

    Later, the Niger Army leader went to Government House to pay a courtesy call on the Military Governor of North Central State, Brigadier Kyari. Relations between Niger and Nigeria are exceedingly cordial.
