    ONE OF THE LIGHTER EVENTS TO SPRING FROM THE ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN UGANDA AND CONGO-KINSHASA LAST SEPTEMBER TOOK PLACE IN THE ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS IN CONGO-KINSHASA ON 19 JULY 1967. IT WAS A SHOW OF AFRICAN FASHIONS.

    THE FASHIONS WERE ESPECIALLY CREATED BY MADAME SULTI KARIN IN AN EFFORT TO COMBINE THE TRADITIONAL COLOUR AND GAIETY OF AFRICAN CLOTHING WITH THE HAUTE COUTURE OF THE EUROPEAN FASHION CENTRES.

    HER FASHIONS WERE PRESENTED BY 54 MODELS AND THE SHOW WAS SPONSORED BY CONGO-KINSHASA'S NATIONAL AIRLINE, AIR CONGO AND THE BATA SHOE FIRM.

    AMONG THOSE PRESENT TO SEE THE FASHION SHOW WERE MADAME LIHAU, THE MINISTER OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS; M. NDOLJI, THE HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR TOURISM; M. KITITUA, MINISTER FOR OVERSEAS TRADE; M. KASHALE, MINISTER OF HEALTH.

    THIS WAS A SHOW OF CONTRASTS. ONE OF THE FASHIONS ON DISPLAY WAS AN ANKLE-LENGTH SKIRT, BUT ANOTHER WAS AN UP-TO-THE-MINUTE TROUSER SUIT.

    SIMPLICITY WAS THE KEYNOTE OF A CLASSIC WHITE SLEEVELESS SHIFT DRESS.

    ALSO ON DISPLAY WERE A KNEE-LENGTH COAT, WHITE EVENING GOWN WITH A SINGLE SHOULDER STRAP AND A SHORT WHITE CAPE OVER A KNEE-LENGTH MATCHING DRESS.
