  • Description

VISNEWS cameras at St. Pancras Railway Station, London, Feb. 3, filmed a 'Big Brother' party of 24 youths between the ages of 16 and 19 as they left London to join the P & O liner 'Stratheden' at Tilbury. They sail for Australia to settle in a new life.

Seventeen will settle on farms and seven will take up work in various townships. Nineteen are from England, four from Scotland and one from the Isle of Man.

This latest batch rings the total to 4,264 youths emigrated to Australia under the 'Big Brother' Movement since its foundation in 1925.

Under the patronage of the Duke of Gloucester, the voluntary 'Big Brother' Movement " promotes the emigration of selected boys. To take the place of absent parents and friends and to endeavour to ensure that each new arrival will become an effective Australian citizen". Australian sponsors accept the boys into their families and provide for their education and accommodation.
