  • Description

England beat East Germany 3-1 in a friendly match at London's Wembley Stadium tonight (Wednesday).

Playing their first match since losing the World Cup in Mexico five months ago, England dominated the game. It was the East Germans first defeat this year and England went two goals ahead in the first 20 minutes when Francis Lee and then Martin Peters found the net. But East Germany came back in the 27th minute when winger Vogel fried in a 30-yard(metre) drive past England's goal keeper, Peter Shilton.

The local side's third goal came after 64 minutes when clarke scored.

East Germany's resistance fell away after this goal and goalkeeper Croy became the busiest man on the field.

This was the first meeting between the two countries since England beat East Germany 2-1 in Leipzig seven years ago.
