  • Description

BULLDOGS FROM ALL OVER BRITAIN TOOK PART IN A THREE-MILE WALK IN LONDON'S REGENT ON SUNDAY.

THE OCCASION WAS THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LONDON BULLDOG SOCIETY, AND OWNERS BROUGHT THEIR REPRESENTATIVES FROM MANY COUNTRIES.

ALTHOUGH THE THREE-MILE WALK WAS NOT REGARDED AS A "RACE" THERE WAS SOME DISTINCTION FOR THOSE BRAVE ANIMALS WHO FINISHED THE COURSE. THEY WERE REWARDED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF MERIT FROM THE SOCIETY.

THE SIGHT OF NEARLY 100 BULLDOGS STRAINING AT THE LEASH TO BEGIN THE FIRST LAP ROUND THE HALF-MILE TRACK ATTRACTED A LARGE AND APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE. BUT BY THE SIXTH CIRCUIT MANY HAD FALLEN OUT THROUGH LACK OF "PUFF" TO THE CONSTERNATION OF THEIR OWNERS.

NOT SURPRISINGLY THERE WAS SOME CONFUSION AT THE START AND A NUMBER OF ??? DOGS JOINED IN THE FUN. CORGIS, POODLES AND NUMEROUS OTHER DOGS UNABLE TO BOAST A PEDIGREE JOINED IN THE CHORUS OF BARKS.

THE LONDON BULLDOG SOCIETY, FOUNDED IN 1891, HELD ITS FIRST SHOW THE FOLLOWING YEAR. PERMISSION TO HOLD SUNDAY'S EVENT ON THE BROAD WALK OF REGENT'S PARK WAS GIVEN BY THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND WORKS.
