  • Description

SOME 10,000 PEOPLE TOOK PART LAST NIGHT (FRIDAY) IN THE BIGGEST ANTI-AMERICAN DEMONSTRATION SEEN IN PARIS FOR MANY YEARS. THE DEMONSTRATORS TRIED TO MARCH ON THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY, BUT FOUND THE WAY BLOCKED BY TWO LINES OF POLICE CARS AS THEY TRIED TO CROSS THE PLACE DE LA CONCORDE IN FRONT OF THE EMBASSY.

A HEAVY POLICE GUARD HAD CORDONED OFF THE EMBASSY, WHERE 35 PETITIONS CALLING FOR THE UNITED STATES TO GET OUT OF SOUTH VIETNAM WERE PRESENTED BY REPRESENTATIVES OF VARIOUS LEFT-WING ORGANISATIONS. THE POLICE ALLOWED THE PETITIONERS TO ENTER THE EMBASSY AT ONE CORNER OF THE HUGE SQUARE IN GROUPS OF TWO.

EMBASSY OFFICIALS SAID THE AMERICANS TOOK NO SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE DEMONSTRATION, WHICH HAD BEEN WELL PUBLICISED IN LEFT-WING NEWSPAPERS SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE.
