NICOLINO LOCCHE OF ARGENTINA PILED UP A BIG EARLY LEAD TO HOLD OFF A LATE CHALLENGE BY JOAO HENRIQUE OF BRAZIL ON SATURDAY (11 OCTOBER) IN BUENOS AIRES AND SO KEPT HIS WORLD JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT BOXING TITLE.

THE 29-YEAR-OLD LOCCHE, USING ALL THE EXPERIENCE HE HAS GAINED IN 112 PROFESSIONAL BOUTS, WAS TOO SWIFT FOR THE BRAZILIAN AND GAINED A UNANIMOUS DECISION OVER THE 15 ROUNDS.

THE THREE JUDGES SCORED IT 296/294, 300-289, AND 299-296 FOR LOCCHE, WHICH MADE IT HIS SECOND SUCCESSFUL TITLE DEFENCE WITHIN A YEAR. IT WAS LOCCHE'S 99TH WIN, BUT RINGSIDE OBSERVERS DID NOT RATE IT AS ONE OF HIS BEST FIGHTS.

THE 23-YEAR-OLD HENRIQUE SUFFERED HIS FIRST DEFEAT IN 29 PROFESSIONAL BOUTS. HE WAS NEVER ABLE TO DELIVER THE KNOCKOUT PUNCH THAT HAD STOPPED 12 OF HIS OPPONENTS. HIS BEST PUNCH IS A LEFT HOOK.
