    THE BODIES OF 337 FRENCHMEN KILLED IN ACTION IN INDO-CHINA RETURNED TO FRANCE TODAY (TUESDAY) AND WERE ACCORDED MILITARY HONOURS AT TOULON NAVAL BASE BEFORE BEING HANDED OVER TO THEIR FAMILIES AND DECENDANTS ALL OVER FRANCE. THEY ARE THE FIRST OF 1,500 BODIES WHOSE REPATRIATION THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT HAS SECURED AFTER SIX YEARS OF NEGOTIATIONS WITH NORTH VIETNAM.

    THE BODIES INCLUDE THOSE OF SEVERAL FRENCH NURSES WHO DIED DURING THE FIGHTING. THE 337 COFFINS WERE LOADED ON THE FRENCH LINER, MOONIE, LAST MONTH IN HAIPHONG WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE NORTH VIETNAMESE AUTHORITIES DURING A LULL ORDERED ESPECIALLY BY THE UNITED STATES IN THE BOMBING OF THE PORT.
