Background: Angry chants and salutes from a noisy crowd on Sunday (27 Feb) greeted Britain's Foreign Secretary....Sir Alee Douglas-Home....on his arrival at Madrid Airport for three days of talks on Gibraltar and other issues. Sir Alec is the first British Foreign Secretary to visit Spain since he was last there 11 years ago. The nationalist demonstrators, numbering more than 500, waved Spanish flags, hoisted banners, and tossed leaflets from the airport gallery. Others threw out their right arms in the salute of the Spanish Falange as Sir Alec Douglas-Home walked from his aircraft into the terminal building accompanied by Senor Lopez Bravo his counterpart, who had set him.
