  • Description

The world-famous Heinkel motor car will be manufactured in entirely at the Dundalk Engineering Works.

The engineering works employs about 1000 men. Mr A.P. Reynolds, chairman of G.N.R. and the Engineering Works, recently returned from Stuttgart, in Germany, where he had negotiations for the purchase of the entire plant and manufacturing rights for the car making branch of the Heinkel Company. Heinkels are reverting to their original business of aircraft manufacture alone.

When negotiations are completed the plant will be transferred to Dundalk where the car will be built for world markets.

Until now, the motor car industry in Ireland had not advanced beyond the assembly stage. All the leading American, British and continental cars were assembled here from imported parts.

The latest step will see every one of the hundreds of parts that go to the making of a car manufactured in Dundalk, thus opening up an entirely new field for Irish craftsmen and engineers.
