TODAY - AT NOON - MEMBERS OF THE "GREATER NEW YORK COMMITTEE FOR SANE NUCLEAR POLICY" WALKED CARRYING FLOWERS FROM 42ND STREET AND 6TH AVE. TO THE UNITED NATIONS PLAZA, WHERE FLOWERS WERE PRESENTED TO MISS SHIGEKO NIMOTO (CQ), A VICTIM OF THE HIROSHIMA BOMBING.

    THE FIRST ATOMIC EXPLOSION TOOK PLACE BACK IN 1945, NOT FAR FROM THE SITE OF THE PLANNED CARLSBAD TEST ... AND IT WAS ONLY A SHORT WHILE LATER THAT THE ATOM EXPLODED OVER JAPAN. IN NEW YORK, TODAY, A LONG LINE OF MEN AND WOMEN MADE THEIR WAY ALONG 42ND STREET TO THE UNITED NATIONS ON THE EAST RIVER. THEY ARE MEMBERS OF THE "COMMITTEE FOR A SANE NUCLEAR POLICY", AND THEIR IMMEDIATE AIM TODAY WAS TO PRESENT FLOWERS THEY CARRIED TO A VICTIM OF THE FIRST ATOMIC BOMB USED IN WAR. A YOUNG JAPANESE WOMAN, MISS SHIGEKO NIIMOTO (CQ), WAS TERRIBLY BURNED AND SCARRED WHEN THE ATOMIC BOMB BURST OVER HIROSHIMA .... AND SHE HAS BEEN IN THE UNITED STATES FOR THREE YEARS UNDERGOING PLASTIC SURGERY ON HER FACE AND HANDS. AUGUST 6TH, 1945 .... A DAY THE WORLD WILL NOT SOON ~FORGET.
