  • Description

No-one is happy with the condition of the pitch at Limassol's Tsirion Stadium, where England and Cyprus will play their return European Championship soccer match on Sunday (11 May).

It's the first time the new stadium has been used, and large bare patches on the pitch will make the playing surface extremely uneven and slow.

England's team manager, Don Revie, will delay naming his final side and forming their tactics until he has carried out a minute inspection of the ground.

Unrest and rioting on Cyprus caused the transfer of the teams' first meeting in this year's championship, from Nicosia to Wembley, where England were untroubled to run out winners 5-0.

Groundsmen and troops have been working round the clock to improve the condition of the pitch for the Limassol match, but it has been a hopeless task. After this game, the grass will be dug up ... and new seeds will be sown.
