Background: Britain's Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne on Wednesday (30 August) hosted a reception in Munich for Commonwealth competitors at the 1972 Olympic Games.
Originally Queen Elizabeth was to have hosted the reception, but she has cancelled her visit to the Olympics because of the death on Monday of Prince William of Gloucester.
Not all Commonwealth competitors were able to attend the reception because it came in the middle of the first week of competitions, and many of the athletes were either taking part in events, or doing their final training. However, most countries were represented.
