    VISITING UNITED STATES VICE-PRESIDENT HUBERT HUMPHREY AND IVORY COAST PRESIDENT FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY DISCUSSED THE FUTURE OF AFRICA AND PROBLEMS OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DURING TALKS IN ABIDJAN, THE IVORY COAST CAPITAL,ON SATURDAY. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE AMERICAN VICE-PRESIDENT LEFT IVORY COAST FOR MONROVIA, AFTER A TWO-DAY VISIT.

    AT THE END OF HIS VISIT MR. HUMPHREY WAS ALSO ABLE TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE EXPORT-IMPORT BANK HAD AUTHORISED A 36 MILLION DOLLAR LOAN TO THE IVORY COAST, TO HELP IN CONSTRUCTION OF THE BANDANA DAM AND HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT.

    IN A COMMUNIQUE RELEASED AFTER THEIR TALKS, IT WAS REVEALED THAT BOTH MR. HUMPHREY AND PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY HAD AGREED ON THE NEED FOR MORE CONTACT BETWEEN DEVELOPING AND INDUSTRIALISED NATIONS.

    PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY PRESENTED THE U.S. VICE-PRESIDENT WITH A MATCHED PAIR OF ELEPHANT TUSKS, AND GAVE A GOLD TRINKET TO MRS. HUMPHREY.

    AFTER HIS TALKS WITH THE PRESIDENT, MR. HUMPHREY CALLED AT THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE AFRICA-DEVELOPMENT BANK TO DISCUSS FINANCIAL MATTERS CONCERNING BOTH COUNTRIES.

    HE WAS ACCOMPANIED, BOTH ON HIS VISITS TO THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE AND THE BANKING HEADQUARTERS, BY THE U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE IVORY COAST, MR. MORGAN.

    MR. HUMPHREY IS ALSO TRAVELLING WITH A GROUP OF AMERICAN BUSINESSMEN AND INVESTMENT BANKERS, AND THEY JOINED HIM IN HIS TALKS WITH THE IVORIEN BANKERS.
