  • Description

A TWIN-ENGINED DRAGONFLY AIRCRAFT -- A VETERAN OF THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK - RECENTLY LEFT BANKSTOWN AIRPORT IN SYDNEY FOR LONDON. THE PILOTS ARE LORD TREFGARNE AND CHARLES MASEFIELD. THE TWO ENGLISHMEN ARE IN THEIR EARLY TWENTIES.

THEY BOUGHT THE PLANE EARLIER THIS YEAR AND RENOVATED IT FOR THE LONG FLIGHT TO BRITAIN. THE AIRCRAFT IS 27-YEARS OLD AND ONCE SERVICED AS AN AERIAL AMBULANCE OUTBACK. MANY FRIENDS OF THE YOUNG ENGLISHMEN WERE AT THE AIRPORT.

EXTRA FUEL TANKS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO GIVE THE PLANE NON-STOP RANGE OF 1,100 MILES. THEY WILL FLY VIA DJAKARTA (INDONESIA) TO SINGAPORE, THUS ELIMINATING A LONG FLIGHT OVER THE SEA.

THEY HOPE TO REACH LONDON IN THREE WEEKS -- JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS AT HOME.
