  • Description

The Shah of Persia, accompanied by King Hussein, took the salute Nov 4 at a parade in Khaw, North Amman, Jordan, of the one-time Arab Legion, now the Royal Jordanian Army.

After inspecting the troops, the two kings mounted the Royal dais, where the Shah presented colours to the Royal Guards.

The Shah was saluted by American M-4 tanks, 'Saracen' armoured cars, Ferret scout cars, British 24-pounders and Bofors anti-aircraft guns. Pageantry was provided by the red-hatted Household Cavalry, escorting the royal car, and by police camels, caparisoned in crimson, trotting past the saluting base.

The parade drill was purely British in style, and at the close, the parade advanced in review order to the playing of the "British Grenadiers". At the end of the parade, King Hussein presented medals to several soldiers.

The Shah of Persia arrived in Jordan Nov. 2 on a five-day state visit.
