Background: The President of Gambia, Sir Dawda Jawara, flew into Abidjan Airport on Thursday (17 October) at the start of a "friendly" visit to the Ivory Coast.
The President arrived accompanied by his wife, and an Ivory Coast delegation led by the Minister in Charge of relations with the National Assembly, Monsieur Loua Diomande. They were all greeted at the Airport by the Minister Without Portfolio, M. Auguste Denise.
The next day, President Jawara, visited Yamoussekro, the birthplace of President Gelix Houphouet-Boigny of the Ivory Coast. President Jawara made the visit to celebrate the 69th birthday of President Houphouet-Boigny, which is the occasion of national celebrations.
SYNOPSIS: The crowd at the Airport watched the official ceremony before celebrating President Jawara's arrival in their own exhuberant manner. Also accompanying the President and his wife on the flight from Gambia had been an Ivory Coast delegation led by the Minister in Charge of Relations with the National Assembly, Monsieur Loua Diomande.
