  • Description

A low mass was said in Westminster Cathedral today (Sunday) for the repose of the soul of Lieutenant-General E.K.Kotoka, the Ghanaian Armed Forces Chief who was killed during the attempted Ghana coup.

Prominent among the worshippers was the Ghanaian High Commissioner, Mr. S.K.Anthony. He joined a large body of worshippers for the service in Britain's foremost Roman Catholic Cathedral. Lieutenant-Colonel J.M.Hugo of the Commonwealth Relations Office represented Britain.

Many messages of sincere regret have arrived in Ghana as a result of General Kotoka's untimely death. United Nations Secretary-General U Thant recalled in his message that it was General Kotoka who led the Ghana delegation to the 21st session of the U.M. General Assembly. In another message, General Earle G.Wheeler, Chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, described Lieutenant-General Kotoka as a national figure widely respected by all freedom-loving nations.
