Dr. Fidel Castro, Cuba's Prime Minister, made a brief stop at Guayaquil in Ecuador on Saturday (4 December), on his way home to Havana after nearly a month visiting Chile. He was met at the airport by the President of Ecuador, Dr. Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra, who had driven in a special motorcade from the city centre. Only a few hours before, Dr. Castro had made a similar brief stopover in Lima, Journalists and photographers were out in force at both stops. Dr. Castro is believed to have held informal talks with President Velasco before flying on to Cuba.

Dr.Castro had spent 25 days visiting Chile, but after an exhausting itinerary still found time to chat to newsmen and wellwishers.
While at Guayaquil Dr. Castro is believed to have had brief and informal talks with President Velasco.
