  • Description

The funeral of the driver of the hi-jacked Dutch train, killed by South Moluccan terrorists took place on Tuesday (9 December) in northern Holland. The previous day (8 December) at the United Nations in New york, self styled General I.J. tamael, a South Moluccan leader, condemned both the hi-jacking and the seizure of hostages at the Indonesian Consulate in Amsterdam.

The train driver was one of these victims murdered by the gunmen after they hi-jacked the train at Berlin in northern Holland. They are now holding 29 hostages on board the train -- and another 25 people in the consulate from where one man who escaped has since died from injuries received jumping from the building. Both the train and the consulate are in a stage of seige with the Dutch government remaining firmly opposed to any deals with the terrorists who are demanding independence from Indonesia.

Several senior government officials were at the funeral as well as representatives of the South Moluccan community in Holland. They have tried without success to mediate and persuade the gunmen to surrender.

Meanwhile, at the United Nations, General Tamael said that ??? condemned the gunmen. He said that he had always believed in peaceful methods to achieve independence for South Molucca. His remarks - translated by an interpreter - appear on film. A transcript follows.
