    A member of the Japanese Diet (Parliament) suffered head injuries when a first fight and general disorder broke to during discussion of two defence bills.

    The legislation will ad another 7,000 men to Japanese defence forces and Mr. Koun Takada, head of the Upper House's cabinet committee, had just voted in favour with other members of the ruling Liberal Democrats when the trouble started.

    Mr. Tetsa Usda of the opposition Social Democratic Party asked Mr. Takada a question bout the bill. Liberal Democrat member shouted that there could be no question. because the bill had already been passed. Opposition members swarmed up to the chairman's seat, ruling party members tried to pull them away, a scuffle developed, punches were thrown and Mr. Takada fell to the floor.

    Mr. Takada, aged 59, was taken to hospital but doctors said his injury was not serious.

    Tow other committees discussing moving universitates out of Tokyo and increasing railway fares also burst into confusion when the Liberal Democrats passed the bills.
