  • Description

Juventus of Turin (Italy) won the first leg of their European Cup semi-final encounter 3-1 over the English team Derby County, in Turin on Wednesday (11 April).

The Italian side gave a brilliant display of attacking soccer in the second half which produced two goals.

The result presents a tough task for Derby County in the return leg at the English side's ground on April 25, although the English League Champions have the consolation that away goals count double in the event of an overall draw.

Altafini scored twice for the Italians. Causio was their other soccer. The Derby County goal was scored by Hector.

A blow to the English side was the booking of two star players, defender Roy McFarland and midfield player Archie Gemmill. Both men, having had their names taken by the reference, West German Gunter Schulenburg, automatically miss the next leg unless they can successfully appeal against the decision.
