Background: With Christmas coming, the world's biggest Christmas pudding is being made in London, by Lyons, the big catering firm. Comedian Charlie Drake and singer Cliff Richard Nov.24 went to the bakery to help with the mixing. Small Charlie Drake, dressed in chef's uniform, tested a soda syphon and went smartly to work.
Time to add some liquid to the mixture...but it's easier said than done, and it does wet one's head so!
Female bakery operatives stood by enjoying the fun. Afterwards, Charlie and Cliff offered the giant samples of the enormous pudding. But everyone seemed a bit doubtful about the mixture.
The 160-pound pudding - providing portions for 1,000 people - is a goodwill Christmas gift from the dried fruit growers of Australia to the old people of the City of London.
Some of the ingredients: 28 pounds of currents, 27 pounds of sultanas and 12 pounds of raisins - all produced by the dried fruit growers of Australia.
