The U.S.Presidential adviser, Doctor Henry Kissinger, said in Washington on Thursday (26 October) that peace in Vietnam was in sight, but he denied the North Vietnamese claim that the United States had made a firm commitment to sign a peace agreement on October 31.
Doctor Kissinger told a news conference in Washington that the United States wanted another meeting in Paris to settle remaining problems.
He was speaking after a North Vietnamese Government statement broadcast on Radio Hanoi said that a secret agreement to end the war had been reached with the United States, but the Americans had delayed the timetable for peace on the pretence of having difficulties with the South Vietnamese Government.
