Background: Vice-President Spiro Agnew of the United States flew into Manila today (Monday) to begin a ten-nation tour of Asia.
Tomorrow he will attend the inauguration of President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines for a second four-year term.
The Vice-President, his wife and party, which included Astronaut Eugene Cerman, were met at the airport by Filipino officials led by Vice-President Fernando Lopez (in white) and Foreign Minister Carlos Romulo (in suit).
In a statement, President Nixon's deputy said he was confident that the coming decade would see the United States and the Philippines 'reach a new mutual relationship which does honour to two great sovereign nations.'
He is due to fly to Taipei on Thursday.
