Background: Because a convoy of trucks from Jordan laden with food and supplies for Arab refugees in the Gaza Strip was not displaying Red Cross markings, Israeli soldiers would not allow it to pass across the Allenby Bridge (also known as the Al-Husein Bridge) and through Israeli-occupied territory yesterday. George Haj our cameraman reported that civilians and other vehicles with appropriate credentials were being allowed to cross the bridge in both directions at the time of the incident. The convoy belonged to the Palestinian Red Crescent Organisation whose representative at the bridge was unsuccessful in obtaining permission from the Israelis to proceed.
