Background: One of the teachings of Islam is that a Moslem should fast a month in a year during Ramadan. For Moslems, Ramadan is a holy month during which the Holy Quran was first introduced. During the 30 days of Ramadan, Moslems of age and sound mind as well as of good health should not refrain from consuming any food, drinks etc from dawn to duck but also refrain from evil thoughts and intentions. When the Ramadan ends, Moslems hold prayers the next morning after which they visit friends, and relatives as well as go to grave-yards and say prayers for the dead.
Although Singapore is predominantly Chinese populated (Chinese are almost all non-Moslems), there quite a number of Moslems comprising os mostly Malays, Indians and Pakistanis etc. On this day of End of Ramadan prayers, all mosques in the island state were packed with people and some have to pray on the ground outside the mosques as well as in open fields.
