    Background: A new department store was opened in Kinshasa, the capital of the Congo Democratic Republic, recently. Run by the Government, the store is known as the "People's Economat" and the President of the organisation, Joseph Davier, welcomed Ministers to the ceremony.

    The store is situated in the business section of the capital city. Businessmen and future customers were on hand for the inauguration. Acting for the Head of State, a Government Minister, M. Di Lutete, made the opening speech and wished the new enterprise every success. The department store handles a wide range of goods and emphasises clothes and fabric popular in the country. He organisation uses self-service techniques in the store and hopes to open branches in other cities in Congo-Kinshasa.
