Background: The jet engine changed it all. The world shrank and man's relationship to the globe will never be the same.

On October 16, 1958, Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower dedicated the world's first jetliner, Pan American World Airways Clipper, America. 123 aboard took the first step into the jet age.

THE FABULOUS DECADE began as speed soared and time, distance and cost came tumbling down. That inaugurated jet has been joined by 3,200 other jet aircraft to keep up with the flood of world travel that developed.

Travel has become part of the fiber of life. Where once only one million people provided airlines with 70% of their revenue today, the majority of the American people have taken to the air. The interchange carriers with a constant mood of hope for world understanding and peace.

Last year, 91 million individuals made 138 million international trips and spent 18.6 billion while seeking pleasure, knowledge, or, conducting business. In the process of this revolution, the airlines emerge as a potent force in the economy. In America; seventh largest industry.

Constant improvement in aircraft and engines created new patterns for international trade. Pan Am's cargo business zoomed nearly 600 per cent. The revolution in cargo brought forth the need to computerize... to automate.

The jets made business men think anew...made inventories obsolete as products can be delivered almost anywhere in the world within 24 hours.

World-wide marketing on a gigantic scale became a reality in THE FABULOUS DECADE.

New plants needed to keep pace with the demand for products. Jet-age distribution by-passes a risky sea voyage which one warped guitars....
Food habits change in a decade of change. Fresh foods are available to the tables of the world as time and distance are overcome by speed. But THE FABULOUS DECADE is just a prelude. The future is once again on the near horizon. New power plants and new technology are present in tem Boeing 747. The Superjet. Greater speed at higher altitudes. More range, greater comfort, The Clippers will carry 362 passengers. In service, December 1969...right behind it the Anglo-French Concord, world's first supersonic jetliner. Passengers will fly faster than the speed of sound into another new fabulous decade.
