  • Description

The three French 'peace dinghy' crewman trying to sail up the Suez Canal on a peace mission said in Tel Aviv, Israel on Saturday (April 7) that they were determined to go shead with their plans. They had been washed up on the Israeli-occupied Sinai desert earlier in the week after missing the canal opening at Egypt's Port Said in heavy weather. They were given warm food and clothing by the Israeli Army, and taken to the French Embassy in Tel Aviv with their outboard-engined inflatable craft.

The three men -- a photographer, a film cameraman, and a journalist -- said they were trying to draw attention to the Middle East situation by sailing through the Canal, closed since the June 1967 war between Israel and the Arabs. French and Israeli government authorities have advised them to give up their mission.
