  • Description

Top athletes from Greece, Belgium and Britain gathered for a triangular athletics match in Athens on Wednesday (18 July).

Britain's only individual track winner was Brian Green, who won the 100 meters in 10.5 seconds. He was away fast and low from the blocks to hold his lead all the way to the tape with Leslie Piggot taking second place.

It was an uncomfortable race for both athletes and spectators, as the temperatures climbed to and stayed around 36 degrees (97 F).

In the 1,500 meters Andre de Hertoghe from Belgium took the tape just ahead of fallow countryman Emile Puttemans, and Belgium's Gaston Roelants won the 10,000 meters event, with Britain's Roger Clarke second and E. Mitsikas from Greece third.
