    President Gerald Ford of the Unites States arrived in South Korea on Friday (22nd November) for a one-day state visit on his way from Japan to the Soviet Union.

    He was met on his arrival at Seoul's Kimpo International Airport by President Park Chung-hee and after formal welcoming ceremonies including honour-guard inspection and gun salutes.

    President Ford replied to President Park's welcoming speech by stressing the close relations between the two countries, saying that nothing binds two nations closer together than having fought side by side for the same cause.

    "Two times we have fought together", he said, "here as well as in Vietnam to preserve the peace, to preserve the stability of Asis and the world. We can never forget this."
    Through cheering crowds estimated at well over one million, the two President's then drove from the airport to the centre of Seoul, where President Ford will stay until his departure for Vladivpstok the following morning (23rd November).

    While in Foren Mr. Ford was scheduled to visit the national cemetery to honour American was dead during the Korean War, visit U.S. Troops stationed between Seoul and the front line between north and south Koreas, and hold brief talks with President Park.

    Mr. Ford first visited South Kores 21 years ago as a congressmen. President Eisenhower visited the country in 1952 and 1960 and President Johnson visited in 1966.
