Background: Hundreds of students, soldiers and civilians marched through nicaragua's capital of Managua on November 9 to honour the memory of a founder-member of the Sandinista National Liberation Front. Carlos Fonsega was killed in 1978 after leading popular revolts against the regime of former dictator Anastasio Somoza, who was finally ousted by the Sandinists in July 1979. Speaking at the commemorative ceremony in Revolution Square, the Minister of Planning, Commander Henry Ruiz, called on all Nicaraguans to rally round the Sandinista Front. The ruling FSIN has recently imposed a state of military emergency along Nicaragua's border with Honduras. The government claims the United States' Central Intelligence Agency has been arming thousands of 'Somozistas' operating from Honduras, the closest ally of the US in Central America.
