  • Description

Japan successfully launched its seventh experimental satellites on Tuesday (9 SEPTEMBER).

The satellite, costing more than one thousand million yen or nearly two million pound sterling, was hurled into space on the top of an American designed Thor-Delta rocket with a Japanese developed second stage booster.

The satellite is the first to be designed and built by the National Space Development Agency. The previous six were put into orbit by Tokyo University's Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science Department.

The satellite is designed to record launching vibrations and internal and external temperatures while in orbit to pave the way for satellites of practical use.

It will orbit 600 miles above earth (1010 km.) and weighs 180 pounds (80 kg.).
