Twenty-eight countries have confirmed their participation in Ghana's third international trade fair which opens on I February. The country's Commissioner for Trade and Tourism, Colonel K.A. Quarshie, showed reporters around the site on Thursday (15 January) and told them that 273 local and foreign companies are to take part.

The theme of the two-week fair is "Food for the Millions", and one of the attractions will be a three day symposium on Agricultural Development. Papers are to be presented by various Ghanaian experts and organisations and two Pakistani experts have been invited to speak.

Entertainment will include the "Miss Third Ghana International Trade Fair", fashion shows and cultural displays. The opening is to be performed by the Head of State and Chairman of the supreme Military Council, Colonel Ignatius Acheampong.

The largest display space of fifteen hundred square metres has been bought by the Chinese. On his tour, Colonel Quarshie spoke to the workmen there.

He told journalists that virtually all the development work and renovations at the site are progressing on schedule.

Several of the exhibitors were late in starting the construction of their pavilions, but Government officials have now impressed upon the contractors the Government's commitment to the success of the Fair and the urgency with which they should approach their jobs.

Numerous items an exhibits have begun arriving in Ghana, and special dispensation is being sought to facilitate the quick unloading of these from ships.
