    SIXTY-FOUR WOUNDED AND SICK CHILDREN FROM VIETNAM ARRIVED IN DUSSELDORF YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) AS PART OF THE BIGGEST MEDICAL RESCUE OPERATION EVER LAUNCHED BY THE RED CROSS FROM WEST GERMANY. FORTY OF THE CHILDREN HAVE SERIOUS INJURIES - INCLUDING DISFIGURING NAPALM BURNS; 10 ARE PARALYSED; AND 14 HAVE POLIO.

    THE CHILDREN WERE ACCOMPANIED BY PASTOR BERGHAUS WHO RUNS THE CHILDREN'S VILLAGES IN VIETNAM FROM WHERE THEY CAME. THE RED CROSS OPERATION WAS ASSISTED BY WEST GERMAN POLICE, AND THE FEDERAL ARMY SUPPLIED ADDITIONAL TRANSPORT AND 6 HELICOPTERS TO AID IN THE MOVING OF THE CHILDREN FROM DUSSELDORF, WHERE THEY ARRIVED, TO MUNSTER WHERE THEY WILL RECEIVE THREE WEEKS OF PRELIMINARY TREATMENT UNDER QUARANTINE BEFORE BEING TAKEN TO VARIOUS MEDICAL CENTRES THROUGHOUT WEST GERMANY FOR SPECIALIST TREATMENT.
