THE MARKET IS REGARDED AS THE BASIS OF THE PROPOSED EAST AFRICAN FEDERATION. AS A RESULT OF THIS CRISIS AN EMERGENCY COMMITTEE WAS ESTABLISHED TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEMS OF TRADE BETWEEN THE THREE COUNTRIES.

YESTERDAY (FRIDAY), THE THREE LEADERS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED THE EMERGENCY COMMITTEE'S REPORT CALLING FOR A SYSTEM OF IMPORT QUOTAS BETWEEN THE COUNTRIES , AND THE IMMEDIATE ALLOCATION OF A NUMBER OF INDUSTRIES (PRESUMABLY TO TANGANYIKA) TO BRING ABOUT A MORE EVEN DISTRIBUTION OF INDUSTRY THROUGHOUT EAST AFRICA.
