  • Description

The battle for the Golan Height continues relentlessly even as United States Secretary of State and trouble-shooter Henry Kissinger is trying to bring both sides together in a quest for peace.

As the big guns of both sides boom over the barren landscape and aircraft scream across the skies, men die, are wounded or captured. In homes in both Syria and Israel families listen to radios, watch television or read newspapers for the latest news of the battles. War is nobody's pleasure. In Damascus, as in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, the continuing flight is uppermost in the minds of the people
So, as the artillery continues its duel and the daily clashes, which have gone on for more than five weeks, continue, the people far from the front watch, listen and wait.

Radios report regularly on the situation; newspapers blaze headlines on the fighting and how the battle is going; television shows how the action is developing.

Outside of the Arab nations official Arab film of the conflict is much more of a rarity than it is from israel, Here, although filmed under adverse conditions with a battle raging as it was recorded, is some footage recorded by Syrian television cameramen. The quality has suffered because of the conditions, but it graphically shows the intensity with which the fighting continues.

Among it are scenes of a captured Israeli pilot being tended by Syrian doctors and nurse. The syrians Claimed to have downed 17 Israeli jets. The Israelis said the figure was two. Two pilots were found by the Syrians -- one of them was dead.
