Background: Orchards, plantations and vineyards were extensively damaged during an Israeli air raid on a Palestinian camp in the village of Burghuliyeh, north of Tyre, on the southern Lebanon coast, on Thursday (28 August).

Four Israeli Phantom fighter-bombers rocketed the camp, believed to be a guerrilla training and operations base, in two separate attacks .. each lasting ten minutes.

Five houses at the camp were also badly damaged, but there were no reports of casualties.

Israeli jets also attacked the same camp earlier this month and last month. They have regularly strafed targets in the south of Lebanon for the past eight years, claiming they are hitting guerrilla bases.

By far the greatest concern to civilian villagers was the damage to their crops. Banana plants, grape vines and citrus trees were destroyed in large numbers.

Machine gun bullets also sprayed parked cars and raked doors and windows of civilian houses.

Shrapnel and bullets were still amongst the crops hours after the raids.

The raids came after similar attacks on the same village earlier this month and late last month.
