AGRICULTURE MINISTERS FROM THE SIX COMMON MARKET NATIONS MEET IN BRUSSELS TODAY (TUESDAY) TO DISCUSS A COMMON POLICY FOR RICE AND OTHER FOODSTUFFS.IT WAS THE FIRST MEETING OF THE MARKET'S COUNCIL OF MINISTERS SINCE COLLAPSE OF NEGOTIATIONS ON BRITAIN'S ENTRY INTO E.E.C.LAST MONTH.

FRENCH AGRICULTURE MINISTER, M.EDGARD PISANI, TOLD NEWSMEN THAT ALTHOUGH NO FINAL DECISION HAD BEEN REACHED AT TODAY'S SESSION, TECHNICAL WORK ON A COMMON POLICY FOR EUROPEAN RICE WAS WELL ADVANCED.

HOWEVER, THE DUTCH DELEGATION WAS REPORTED TO HAVE OPPOSED THE COMMISSION'S DRAFT PROPOSALS FOR RICE REGULATIONS BECAUSE THEY CLOSED THE DOOR TO IMPORTS FROM THIRD COUNTRIES.

THE DUTCH OBJECTION WAS REPORTEDLY AIMED AT KEEPING THE COMMON MARKET OUTWARD LOOKING AND FACILITATING EVENTUAL MEMBERSHIP BY BRITAIN AND OTHER COUNTRIES.

TODAY'S TALKS, PRESIDED OVER BY LUXEMBURG'S AGRICULTURE MINISTER, M.EMILE SCHAUS, ALSO CONSIDERED MEASURES TO COMBAT FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE IN GREECE AND TURKEY FROM SPREADING TO OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES.
