    BEFORE THE MEN LEFT THEY WERE TOLD BY MOZAMBIQUE'S ARMY COMMANDER, GENERAL CAEIRO CARRASCO, THAT ENEMIES WERE PREPARING THEMSELVES FOR TERRORIST ACTIONS. HE WANTED TO ERASE ALL TRACE OF EUROPEAN PRESENCE IN AFRICA.

    GENERAL CARRASCO IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN REFERRING TO INCIDENTS ON THE BORDER BETWEEN MOZAMBIQUE AND TANZANIA.

    YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) THE PRESIDENT OF THE MOZAMBIQUE LIBERATION FRONT (FRELIMO), DR. EDUARDO MONDLANE, CLAIMED THAT TEN PORTUGUESE SOLDIERS WERE KILLED and 15 WOUNDED IN CLASHES WITH NATIONALISTS DURING THE PAST THREE WEEKS.

    DR. MONDLANE, IN A STATEMENT PUBLISHED IN THE TANZANIA RULING PARTY NEWSPAPER, "THE NATIONALIST," ALSO SAID THAT FOUR BRIDGES AND RAILWAY CROSSING HAD BEEN DESTROYED.
