  • Description

North Vietnam has this week produced film of the damage it claims was inflicted on a housing area in the prot of Haiphong during three days of United States air attacks on July 29, 30 and 31st.

Official information supplied with the film says thirty-three civilians died in the raid, which struck a housing district close to Haiphong Harbour. The North Vietnamese report says 4,943 houses were destroyed and that more than thirteen hundred families were made homeless.

The report says that a quarter of Haiphong is now in ruins, and much of the city is at a standstill. However, it adds that the citizens of Haiphong remain in high spirits and "are determined to fight until they get the final victory".

Haiphong has also been the target in more recent raids. United States military reports insist that housing areas are not deliberately struck in United States raids and that targets are selected on a strategic basis.
